Keeping Carpets Looking Better for Longer, Dec 2013
That plush carpet you’ve just installed might look and feel great but it will need a lot of care and attention if you want to ensure the longevity of your investment. If you’ve recently acquired a new carpet for your apartment, house or office then you should consider how best to keep it clean. After all, a clean carpet will not only improve your family’s health but it will help retain the value of your property.
Yet the most assiduous vacuum-cleaning won’t be enough. Everyday wear and tear is inevitable and dirt and dust will always find a way into the fabric. But there are some things you can do to maintain your carpet’s appearance over time (as specified in the handy infographic above).
We recommend you vacuum clean your carpets at least once a week. By getting into the habit of doing it regularly, you can remove the greater share of dirt, dust and debris that would otherwise build up.
A carpet freshening powder can be added and will increase the health of your carpet, leaving it fresh and scented. After applying the powder leave it to set for 10 or 15 minutes before getting out the hoover.
Spills do happen no matter how careful we are. In such instances it is essential to respond fast. First, you should blot the spill with a white paper towel before applying a warm, wet sponge. Remember: “blot don’t rub” – rubbing can set the stain and wear the fabric. A carpet-safe cleaning agent might also be required. Alternatively you can try applying various ingredients depending on the type of stain (try club soda for coffee stains and red wine; cornstarch for grease; salt for mud)
One other thing to consider: no shoes in the house! Most dirt enters our home from outside. By enforcing a ‘shoes off’ policy, your carpets will stay brighter for longer!
And last but not least: call in the professionals. If the above fail to adequately restore your carpet’s appearance then its time to get in touch with a registered cleaning service – and we know just company for the job.
